PennDOT will be switching to Stage 2 of the Fahy Bridge construction on February 20 and 21. J.D. Eckman, the prime contractor for the New Street, Fahy Bridge, reconstruction, will begin to make necessary traffic accommodations and sign relocations, to switch traffic from the currently used Southbound Fahy Bridge to the newly constructed Northbound Fahy Bridge. In order to implement this work there will be traffic stoppages for up to 15 minutes on the Fahy Bridge and Center St. intersection, and at the New St. and Third St. intersection during the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM each day.
During this stage, traffic will be switched to the northbound lanes, in a similar manner as exists today. One 10-foot lane will be maintained in each direction, with turn lanes at the southern end of the bridge for southbound traffic. Pedestrians will also be moved to the new (and permanent) sidewalk on the northbound side of the bridge.
During Stage 2, both the Columbia Street ramp and the 2nd Street ramp will be closed. There will be limited sight distance for traffic on the Columbia Street ramp to merge onto the bridge (since there will only be one lane to merge into) and the 2nd Street ramp will be utilized for construction vehicle access and reconstruction on that side of the bridge.
Trucks and buses (aside from school buses) will still be detoured to the Minsi Trail Bridge, as they are today.
There will again be nights and possible weekend closures of the bridge to facilitate concrete pours and other related work. We will send updated notices once we receive those dates.
Please be aware of possible delays during the traffic switch and use caution through the work areas.
